With the Far East India Djibouti (FID) service, the world’s first vessel, SeaLead Shipping and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) are providing a new weekly direct liner service that enhances maritime connectivity between the Orient Island, India and East Africa.

FID Service: Enhanced Maritime Connectivity on 5th September 2024, the FID service provides a weekly direct delivery service between major ports in Djibouti, India, and China. This strategic project aims to increase efficiency and accommodate shipping times on major international trade routes.

“This service enhances trade efficiency to provide direct connections between China, India, and Djibouti, with Colombo functioning as the hub port,” a SeaLead statement said. Colombo’s growing importance in the global shipping industry disappears with its inclusion.

Key ports on the FID service route

The westbound route starts in Shanghai and calls at major ports such as Ningbo, Nansha, Port Klang, Colombo, Nhava Sheva and Mundra en route to Djibouti. The service ensures seamless trade between these high-demand locations by offering a direct link from Djibouti to Shanghai on the return eastbound route.

Colombo: Strengthening Its Role as a Premier Maritime Hub

As a key marine hub in the area, we want to strengthen Colombo’s position, and this partnership fits with that goal,” SLPA Managing Director Prabath Malavige said. “In addition to improving commerce connectivity, the FID service will bolster Colombo’s strategic significance within the international shipping network.
